Fords basketball teams to host Hoops from the Heart Clinics on MLK Day

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The 10th annual Hoops from the Heart Martin Luther King youth basketball clinic will take place at Haverford College's Gardner Integrated Athletic Facility on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The clinic, open to boys and girls in grades one through eight, will cover all aspects of fundamental play. Each player will get a complimentary T-shirt. Cost for the clinic is $30 ($20 each additional sibling.) Proceeds from the annual event will benefit the Community Action Agency of Delaware County (CAADC), which provides services to needy families in our own communities. In addition to operating shelters and daycare facilities for individuals and families, the CAADC also provides many vital services including welfare to work programs and food and fuel assistance. Players are asked to bring one or two non-perishable food items or canned goods to the event.

The clinic will be conducted by Haverford College women's basketball coach Bobbi Morgan and men's coach Mike Mucci and members of the Fords' varsity hoop teams. The clinic is co-sponsored by the Haverford Township Recreation Department. For more information, please call the Haverford Township Recreation office at 610-446-9397 or contact Haverford women's basketball coach Bobbi Morgan at 610-896-1433 or by email.

The annual MLK Hoops from the Heart basketball clinic was founded in 2002. It began as one clinic and this year there will be clinics at Haverford College, Neumann College, Widener University, Cabrini College and Springfield High School. Since its inception, the clinics have raised more than $40,000 for the CAADC. This year's proceeds will be targeted toward families in crisis.
