Fords fall to Blue Jays in conference opener

BALTIMORE, Md. - A quick start wasn't enough as the Haverford College men's basketball team fell, 64-43, to host Johns Hopkins University in the Centennial Conference opener for each team Tuesday night in Goldfarb Gym.

Haverford (1-3, 0-1 CC) broke out of the gate taking a 7-2 lead after three minutes of game action, but the Blue Jays (3-1, 1-0) rallied to take a 10-9 lead with a little less than 13 minutes left in the opening 20 minutes, then stretched out that lead for the home victory.

The Fords scored 17 points off 17 Hopkins turnovers but otherwise experienced a chilly night on the floor hitting only 30 percent of their shots while the Blue Jays struck at a 46 percent rate.

Ian Goldberg hit for a team-high nine points in the loss. Brett Cohen added eight points and led the Fords on the glass with nine rebounds.

George Bugarinovic spearheaded the Hopkins offense with a team-best 14 points. Ten different Blue Jays scored in the win.

Haverford will jump back into action immediately following the holiday break with a visit to Catholic University for a non-conference match-up Monday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m.
