Baker, Cipriano, Cohen help lead Fords past McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Haverford College picked up a double-double from Brett Cohen while Cam Baker and Louis Cipriano keyed the offensive attack Thursday night in the Fords' 66-62 Centennial Conference men's basketball victory over host McDaniel College in the Green Terror's Gill Center.

Cohen posted a game-high 17 rebounds for Haverford (5-9, 3-4 CC) and completed the double-double scoring 12 points. He also added three of the Fords' seven blocks on the night. Baker put up a team-best 19 points in the win over the Green Terror (4-9, 1-5) and stretched his impact across the stat sheet pulling down six rebounds while adding three assists, two steals and a pair of blocks. Cipriano was the other offensive star of the night for Haverford adding 17 points after hitting 5-of-8 of his shots from behind the three-point arc.

A six-point halftime advantage, 32-26, looked safe throughout much of the second half's action as the Fords increased the lead to 12 with a Cipriano trey that pushed the score to 49-37 with just under ten minutes remaining.

McDaniel battled back to tie the score at 57-57 and again at 60-60 but weren't able to move ahead of the Fords. Successful free throws over the final 57 seconds from Joel Michel, Cohen and Ian Goldberg iced the win for Haverford.

The Green Terror shot out of the gate in the first half jumping out to a 10-2 lead in the early going before a 13-2 Haverford run moved the Fords in front, 15-12. The lead would never fall back into McDaniels' hand though the score was tied at 17-17 and twice more late in the second half.

Cullen Murray-Kemp posted a game-high 22 points for McDaniel in the loss and Louis Sarris-Grau added 12 points and a team-best nine rebounds.

The Fords will continue with league play over the rest of the season and open up a three-game home stretch Saturday at 3 p.m. in Gooding Arena against visiting Johns Hopkins University.
