Goldberg named to Philly Inquirer academic all-area squad

PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College senior Ian Goldberg has been voted onto the 2012 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Basketball Team as released by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area that compose Philly-SIDA.

Goldberg, an economics major, was voted a first-team All-Centennial Conference player following a senior campaign in which he surpassed the 1,000-point career points barrier. His 1,028 points is 10th on the program's all-time scoring list. He led the conference in 3-point field goals per game (2.44) this winter hitting 61-of-149 from beyond the arc, and his 3-point percentage of .409 was fourth-best in the league.

A team captain and two-time Centennial winter academic honor roll selection, Goldberg led the team in scoring 13 times during the 2011-12 season reaching double-figures 19 times. His career-best single-game high of 32 points came during the Fords' regular-season victory over host Ursinus College on Feb. 8, 2012.

Ursinus' Jon Ward was named the all-area team's performer of the year. Temple's T.J. DiLeo, Holy Family's Khiry Hankins and Arcadia's Colin McCarty round out the squad.
