Reyes' 3s nearly pull Fords past Bullets

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Scoring all of his points in the second half, and from beyond the three-point arc, Haverford College's Anthony Reyes almost pulled the Fords all the way back from a double-digit deficit, but host Gettysburg College held on for the 70-64 Centennial Conference men's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at Bream Gym.

Reyes finished with 12 points for Haverford (8-14, 4-12 CC) which was led by Brett Cohen's 18 points. Tanner Kirkpatrick of Gettysburg (11-12, 9-7) led all scorers with 20 points.

The Fords trailed the Bullets by only one point, 33-32, coming out of the halftime break, but the home team scored the first seven points of the second half to break open the tight affair.

The lead lengthened to 10 at the midway mark of the half.

Trailing by eight, 56-48, Reyes knocked down his second three-pointer of the half but the Bullets' Pete Christ answered with the same on Gettysburg's next trip down the floor. Reyes responded with another three to chip away at the deficit again.

With the Bullets up 63-56, Reyes drained his fourth trey of the half and then a steal from Cohen and a jumper from Lucus Colombo trimmed the Gettysburg lead to just 63-61 with 2:39 to play.

A long-range three from Joe Emerusabe coming out of a Haverford time out pushed the Bullets' advantage to five, though. The Fords were only able to cut the deficit to as close as four with 23 seconds remaining over the final two minutes of action.

Cohen completed the double-double for the Fords by pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Colombo scored 11 to join Cohen and Reyes in double-digits for the Fords.

Gettysburg's Sean Gordon nearly pulled off the triple-double adding nine rebounds and nine assists to his 10-point afternoon.

Haverford welcomes Ursinus College to Gooding Arena for its next game, Wednesday night at 8 p.m. The season concludes at Swarthmore College on Saturday, Feb. 22.
