Men's Basketball Downed at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – A red hot Gettysburg offense was too much for the Haverford College men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon. The Bullets shot just over 57 percent for the game, including 47 percent from beyond the three-point line, to come away with a 92-47 victory on their home court.

Pacing Gettysburg's offense were four starters that reached double figures in the scoring column. Cody Kiefer's 17 points led the way for his team during the Centennial Conference matchup. Haverford got 15 points and eight rebounds from Joe Scibelli. Kahlil Garnes and Rohan Shukla also scored seven points on the afternoon.

The start was not at all an indication of the offensive game that the Bullets were going to display on Saturday. The Fords started out by allowing their counterparts just six points in nearly five-plus minutes of game action to open the day. A layup from Garnes and subsequent Josh Fried steal that fed Scibelli a three-pointer on the offensive end gave Haverford a 7-6 lead just under four minutes into the contest.

Nevertheless, the Bullets began to find their way as they scored on three straight possessions and never seemed to let down for the remainder of the opening half. After 20 minutes, Gettysburg was shooting a blistering 58 percent from the field and holding a 50-22 lead.

Not even the halftime break could halt the momentum of Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon as the hosts shot an even 56 percent during the final 20 minutes of the victory.

Men's basketball will return home this Tuesday for a meeting with No. 17 Franklin & Marshall. The Diplomats are currently in sole possession of first place after a hard-fought victory today against Swarthmore. With the women's game on Tuesday set to tip at 6 p.m., the men's portion of the doubleheader is slated for 8 p.m. in the Gooding '84 Arena.
