Silver Waves Media release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Patrick Doherty has been recognized by Silver Waves Media as one of the 50 most impactful head coaches in Division III men's basketball. Colleges and universities in Division III place the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience and on the successful completion of all students' academic programs. These coaches are the best in the country at not only mentoring their student-athletes on the court but setting them up for success after graduation as well.

Doherty recently completed his third season as head coach at Haverford. Improving their win total each season, the Fords broke through and made the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time since the 2010-11 season this past year. Haverford entered the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed which marked the team's highest finish in the Centennial Conference standings. The team's 16-10 record marked the second-most wins in school history.

In addition to coaching first-team All-Centennial Conference selections during each of the past two seasons, the Fords have also led the conference in number of student-athletes honored on the Centennial Conference Academic Roll during that time. Doherty's teams have also embraced the community service aspect of Haverford College and Division III. The Fords welcomed the Hoops 4 Hope League to campus this fall and have also been active participants in the athletic department's work with the Special Olympics Festival hosted at Villanova University every year.

Doherty came to Haverford after spending eight seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Lafayette. He began has college coaching career as an assistant at both The College of New Jersey and Williams College.

Additionally, Doherty has worked with the Hoop Group as a coach and site facilitator and also served as a program director for PeacePlayers International in Northern Ireland. PeacePlayers is a non-profit organization that uses the game of basketball to unite and educate children and their communities in areas of the world that are historically characterized by strife. During his time in Northern Ireland, Doherty was a player/coach for Northstar Basketball Club.
