FORDS FLASHBACK: Mucci Heads Into Retirement on Winning Note at JHU (2017)

Over the course of the summer, Haverford Athletics will continue to dig into the archives to bring you a "Fords Flashback".

February 18, 2017

Recap | Box Score

The Haverford College men's basketball team capped head coach Mike Mucci's 22-year career at Haverford with an 80-78 victory at Johns Hopkins to close the 2016-17 campaign. Mucci would retire from Haverford following that season after accumulating a program-record 185 wins during his time on the sidelines. The back-and-forth contest featured 18 ties and 17 lead changes as career 1,000-point scorer Matt Sherman '17 also went out a winner during his final game with the Fords. Sherman was one of four Haverford starters in double figures that day. That contest also showcased the potential in the seasons to come for the Fords as then first-year Jonathan Lang '20 scored 25 points in the victory. Lang and the rest of the Class of 2020 recently capped their careers this spring with the program's first playoff appearance since the 2010-11 season. Lang finished the game 10-of-13 from the field as the Fords shot 50% as a team. Lang's 25th point gave the Fords an 80-76 lead that JHU was unable to overcome in the last minute of the contest.
