HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford men's basketball team (4-3, 1-1 CC) was outlasted in an early-season contest against No. 18 Swarthmore (4-1, 2-0 CC) at Gooding '84 Arena, falling by a final of 81-50 after Swarthmore's dominance in the paint on Tuesday evening.

Gabriel Franklin (13 points), Josh Love (12), and Harry Johnson (10) all finished in double figures to lead the Fords in the contest. Ryan Trotter hauled in seven rebounds while Franklin followed him with six. However, the Fords were outdone by the Garnet in a physical contest. Haverford was outscored in the paint 48-20, while the Swarthmore bench played a key role, pouring in 37 points.

The Fords were able to hang around for much of the first ten minutes. The game was tied as late as 16-16 after a jump shot from Franklin. A sustained 23-6 run from Swarthmore but any thoughts of an upset bid to bed. In the first half, Swarthmore's Michael Caprise led his team in scoring, with eight points and was also able to haul in ten first-half rebounds. The Garnet shot 45.9 percent from the field en route to a 39-point first half, leading Haverford by 17 points entering the intermission.

The second half was a hard-fought stanza, but Swarthmore was still too much to handle inside. Some fruitful outside shooting and aggressive playmaking from Franklin proved that the Fords were more than willing to claw their way back into the game by any means. Johnson scored all ten of his points in the second half, after getting free for some easy looks at the basket. Swarthmore kept plugging away behind Caprise, who finished the game with 15 points. George Visconti was the second leading scorer for the visitors with 12 points.

Haverford will look to bounce back when they return to action on Saturday, December 4, as men's basketball travels to Lancaster, Pa. to take on Franklin & Marshall. The tip-off time for the contest is slated for 3 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.
