Lucky seven from men's lacrosse earn all-conference honors

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Haverford College men's lacrosse program found out more good news Tuesday afternoon as the Centennial Conference released its 2010 All-Centennial men's lacrosse teams and seven Fords were on the league roster.

Attackman Max Hjelm, midfielder Travis Gregory, and defender Grant Firestone were voted onto the league's First-Team squad.

Hjelm, the No. 2 goal scorer in the conference with 39 so far this season, is one of just two repeat first-teamers (along with Gettysburg's Tim Kurpis). Firestone, second on the team with 44 ground ball pickups, earns his initial top-tier conference honor following a second-team selection last season. Gregory, the team's leader in game-winning goals with four, leaps all the way up from honorable mention all-conference in 2009.

Goalkeeper Joe Banno, defender Dillon Hamill, midfielder Zack Cohen and attackman Andrew Kim were selected for Second-Team All-Centennial in 2010.

Banno is 27th in the nation in goals against average and was just named the national Division III Nike Player of the Week by InsideLacrosse.com following a 29 save weekend while helping the Fords capture their first conference tournament title. Hamill has registered 48 caused turnovers this season, 18 more than any other player within the Centennial this season.

Cohen is fourth in the league averaging 1.44 assists per game and has piled up 12 multi-point games including a six-point outing (4 goals, 2 assists) in the Fords' double-overtime semifinal victory Friday afternoon over Dickinson in the league tournament. Kim handled the ball perhaps more than any other player during the season setting up the offensive attack from behind the goal and accumulating 17 assists, second-most on the team, to go along with his 17 goals.

The seven first- and second-teamers is the highest number of players from Haverford voted onto those two teams in the program's history.

The seven Fords and their teammates have moved back to the practice field as they await word this Sunday as to where their automatic bid into the NCAA tournament will send them next.
