Men's Lacrosse Survives Late Game Scare Against Green Terror, Wins 12-11

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (7-6, 3-2 CC)  survived a late game scare against McDaniel (7-7, 0-6 CC) Saturday afternoon, as the Fords claimed a 12-11 victory over the Green Terror at Gill Stadium on the campus of McDaniel College.

The Centennial Conference leading scorer Reid Tietjen, paced the Scarlet and Black in goals with six. With his sixth goal of the contest, Tietjen reached the 100 point mark in just his 56th game for Haverford.

Matt Richards ripped in three goals, while Will Graves contributed two.

Defensively, Ronan West caused two turnovers, while D'Andre Chaney caused one turnover and scooped up three ground balls. 

In the face-off X, Teddy Carlin won 17-of 26 faceoffs, collecting seven ground balls in the winning effort as well.

In between the pipes, Jacob Abraham made 10 stops off of 21 shots.

McDaniel opened up the scoring in the first quarter with a goal from Carter Youtz at the 13:02 mark, before two-straight goals from Tietjen gave the Fords a 2-1 lead heading into quarter number two.

At 14:32 in the second quarter, the Green Terror took advantage of a Tyler Vendetti penalty, to level the game at 2-2. With the game deadlocked at 2-2 Haverford went on a 6-0 run to close out the first half, as two goals from Richards, three goals from Tietjen, and a goal from Will Graves, gave the visitors a 8-2 advantage at the half.

McDaniel opened up the third quarter on a tear, going on a 4-0 scoring run, to pull within just two goals, 8-6, with 3:06 to go in the third stanza. Tietjen and Graves then scored within 57 seconds of each other, to boost the Fords lead back up to 10-6, before two more goals from the Green Terror made it a 10-8 game with the fourth quarter looming.

Nick Wingo found the back of the net to trim the Haverford lead down to 10-9 at the 13:55 mark, before an Aidan Skelly goal with 5:57 remaining evened the game at 10-10. Wingo scored his third goal of the contest with 4:43 left to go, to give McDaniel their first lead since the beginning of the first quarter, as the Scarlet and Black then trailed 11-10.

Richards tied the contest 11-11 at the 3:05 mark, before a heroic goal from Jonathan Moon gave the Fords a 12-11 lead. Haverford was able to fend off any late game chances from the hosts, as the Fords left Gill Stadium with a 12-11 victory. 

The Fords continue their two-game road trip Wednesday, April 17, traveling to Allentown, Pa. to take on the Mules of Muhlenberg at 7 p.m.
