Hamill voted to Philly Inquirer academic all-area team

PHILADELPHIA - Haverford College senior Dillon Hamill was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer 2012 Academic All-Area Men's Lacrosse Team as announced Tuesday by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

This marks the third-straight year Hamill, a United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) honorable mention All-American in 2011 and 2012, has been voted to the Academic All-Area team by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area that encompass the Phildelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, an athlete must be in his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.

A long-pole midfielder for the Fords, Hamill took team-high honors for the third straight season with 40 caused turnovers as he caused three or move turnovers in 10 of 12 games during his senior campaign.

The three-time second-team All-Centennial Conference selection capped his collegiate career by competing in the 71st-annual Division III North-South men's lacrosse senior all-star game at Harvard University on May 25.

Hamill, an economics major, earned inclusion to the Centennial academic honor roll the past three seasons.

Joining Hamill on the Academic All-Area team are Aaron Benz (Eastern), Charlie Bytheway (Widener), Robert Church (Drexel), Brian Hill (Cabrini), Max Hubbard (Swarthmore), John LoCascio (Villanova), Ryan McGee (Saint Joseph's), Jonathan Molloy (Swarthmore), Zach Richter (Gwynedd-Mercy) and Bobby Thorp (Cabrini). John McSorley of Cabrini was named the performer of the year.
