PHILADELPHIA – Senior defenseman Scott Chanelli of Haverford College's men's lacrosse team has been voted onto the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2013 Academic All-Area Men's Lacrosse Team, as released Tuesday by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

In order to be eligible for academic all-area, an athlete must be in at least his second year at the institution and own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Chanelli was one of 12 area athletes voted onto the academic all-area squad. John LoCascio from Villanova University was tabbed the team's performer of the year.

On May 21 Chanelli was named a 2013 U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III honorable mention All-American as well as a 2013 USILA Scholar All-American. A day earlier he selected to play for the South team in the 2013 D-III North/South senior all-star game which was contested on May 24 at Cabrini College.

The week prior to his all-American nod Chanelli was named to the first-team All-Centennial Conference squad, following up on second-team honors in 2012.

Chanelli posted career-high numbers during his final campaign as a Fords defender, forcing a league-best 47 caused turnovers and scooping up 86 ground balls which was fourth-most in the conference. His mark of 3.36 caused turnovers per game ranked fifth in NCAA D-III lacrosse, and Chanelli's career total of 182 ground balls is 10th-most in program history.
