Men's Lacrosse Overwhelms Mt. St. Mary, 18-6

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's lacrosse team scored its first victory of the 2015 season with an offensive outburst Wednesday afternoon. The Fords had 11 different players score a goal in the game, including two different players with hat tricks. All of this offensive pressure come during an 18-6 victory against Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.).

Geoff Geppert led the Haverford attack with a career-high five goals. Richard Greenberg added the Fords' second hat trick performance of the night with a career-high three goals and four points. Isaac Krier also tallied the first two goals of his collegiate career. Three others players, Alejandro Vega, James Forse, and Noah Quinn also scored the first goals of their collegiate careers in the win. Evan Dorman, Jack Bodine, Chase Williams, and Jack Sollee were also goal scorers on the evening.

The Fords never trailed in the game and were tied on just one occasion. Vega's first career goal opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game. The Knights answered just over a minute later for their final time being tied on the afternoon. Haverford scored at least four goals in each quarter. Geppert gave his team the lead for good with back-to-back scoring efforts before Dorman closed the quarter with his second goal of the season.

The Fords extended their goal run to 5-0 with the first two man up opportunities of the day. Williams recorded his team-leading seventh goal of the season three minutes into the second quarter, while Geppert completed his hat trick with just under 19 minutes gone by in the game.

Mount Saint Mary scored its first man up goal of the game midway through the second quarter. However, Haverford again answered that visiting goal with six straight of its own, a stretch that carried into the third quarter. Krier, Greenberg and Sollee all did the damage on the scoreboard in the final five-plus minutes of the half to give the team a 9-2 lead at the half.

That lead would get all the way up to 12-2 when Greenberg opened the scoring just under 90 seconds into the second half. His tally was followed by man up opportunity goals from Krier and Girard. The Knights got their only back-to-back goals of the evening midway through the third quarter. However, the Fords answered with goals from seniors Geppert and Bodine before heading into the fourth quarter.

The Fords also strung together four straight goals in the fourth quarter as Forse and Quinn tallied the first goals of their careers. Geppert finished his career night with his fifth goal of the evening before Greenberg's third and final tally of the night was Haverford's 18th goal of the game. The Knights bookended the scoring in Wednesday's final quarter to make the final 18-6. The hosts finished the game 7-of-10 on man up chances.

Haverford finished with a dominant 54-24 advantage in shots for the game. Geppert's 12 shots on the evening paved the way for the Haverford attack. The senior also picked up a team-high six ground balls on the evening, helping his team to a total of 45 pickups on the night. Andrew Dalke finished the game was six faceoff victories in 12 chances. Brandon Smith, Ben Miltenberg, and Matthew Pruss also won three faceoffs as Haverford took 15-of-28 faceoff wins in the game.

In goal, Eric Caliendo made 11 saves on the 17 shots on goal that he was faced with. The Fords' defense also pressured the Knights' attack into 20 turnovers. Eleven different Haverford players were credited with a caused turnover for the game.

Men's lacrosse will be back at home this Saturday when FDU-Florham comes to campus. That contest is slated for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
