Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Eric Caliendo has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team for the first time in his career. Caliendo is one of 12 student-athletes honored on the all-area team. The honorees are voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.

Caliendo, now a rising senior, was one of two Haverford players to start every game during the 2015 season. Solidifying the goal on Haverford's defensive unit, Caliendo played every minute and registered five wins on the year. He posted a 9.69 GAA as he made 159 saves on the year, recording a .539 save percentage.

The honorable mention All-Centennial Conference selection also led Haverford with 49 ground ball pickups and ranked third on the team with 13 caused turnovers on the season. He stopped 10 or more shots on goal in 11 games this past season. In addition to his all-conference nod, Caliendo was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and was selected as a Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship representative.

Caliendo is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Lacrosse team by Saint Joseph's Ryan McGee (Performer of the Year) and Kevin Barrow. Also included in the 12 honorees are Widener's Scott Allison, Marc LaVine and Tim Taylor, Nico Belardo from Gwynedd Mercy, Mitch de Snoo of Drexel, Penn's Matt McMahon, Brian Neff from Ursinus and Eastern teammates Jordan Norris and Andrew Travers.
