HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (0-1) opened up the 2023 season with the annual lid-lifter against a tough opponent in No. 14 Cabrini (1-0), falling to the visiting Cavaliers by an 18-6 final on Swan Field.

First-year Reid Tietjen paced the Fords with a pair of goals and an assist while Spencer Sapir, Matt Richards, Tyler Vendetti, and Will Graves all added tallies in the contest. Andrew Arth and Jonathan Moon each had a pair of assists on the afternoon. Andy Tieso stopped 15 saves between the pipes, and collected five ground balls.

Cabrini jetted out to an early 4-0 lead, tallying twice in the opening moments as Dillon McManus notched a hat-trick with just 12:41 showing on the game clock. Haverford was able to regroup and get back into the rhythm of the contest after that initial shock, with Richards lighting the lamp off an assist from Tietjen to open the scoring for the Hosts just 10 seconds later. Cabrini eventually cruised out to a 6-1 advantage, but the Fords stayed poised and were able to rattle off back-to-back goals from Tietjen and Sapir to trim the lead to just three at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was all Cavaliers, however, as Matt and Mikey Vanaman were integral in helping the visitors take a 10-3 lead at intermission. In the second quarter,  Moon found Graves for a man-up goal and Arth did the same in the fourth, finding Tietjen, who added his second of the contest with seven minutes remaining. Arth later passed in to Vendetti, who notched his first career goal with 3:31 left in regulation.

The story of the day for the visitors was defined by the dominating presence of first-year FOGO Sam Ditrolio, who frustrated Haverford at the X with 22 wins and 18 ground balls. Simon Dickinson added two caused turnovers in the contest, while Nate Rose had three ground balls to help anchor the midfield.

The Fords now face a quick turnaround, as a midweek contest at Stevens is on tap for Wednesday, February 22. The Fords and Ducks will battle in Hoboken at approximately 7 p.m. to kick off a stretch of five consecutive games away from home. Last season, Haverford posted perhaps its signature win of the season with an 11-9 triumph over then-No. 18 Stevens at Swan Field.
