Men's Lacrosse Grounds River Hawks, 8-5

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (2-4) took care of business on the road Saturday, defeating the hosts Susquehanna (4-3) by a score of 8-5. Haverford led wire-to-wire and has now allowed seven or fewer goals in three of its six games to begin 2023.

Andrew Arth and Peter Christians led the way for Haverford on Saturday. Arth finished with a hat-trick while Christians scored two. The defense was again at the forefront for the Fords, allowing very few chances from Susquehanna in a stifling effort. Danny Hoehler caused a team-high four turnovers and scooped another team-high four ground balls. Jacob Abraham, getting another start in goal for the Fords, ended the day with seven saves. The first period ended with the Fords leading 3-2. The goals in the first came from Tyler Vendetti, Eric Dahlberg and Antonin Hoppmann-Salario. Jonathan Moon and Andrew Arth provided the assists.

The Fords once again outscored Susquehanna in the second period behind a strong effort from Arth. Arth scored his first goal of the game at the 13:06 mark of the period with Moon providing the assist. Three minutes later, Arth found the back of the net again to give Haverford a 5-2 lead. Christians scored the first of his two goals in the dying seconds of the half, beating the goalie with only two seconds remaining.

Through two periods, Haverford outshot Susquehanna 23-11 giving the visitors a 6-3 halftime lead. The teams were even on ground balls with 11 through the first 30 minutes.

Susquehanna got the better of Haverford in the third period, as the River Hawks outscored the visitors 2-1 in what continued to be a defensive battle. Christians opened the scoring at the 8:25 mark after nearly 12 scoreless minutes between both teams. However, the River Hawks responded with two unanswered goals from Nick Remund and Brennan Lorence to close out the period.

Another low-scoring period appeared to be on the horizon as the fourth period began. Neither team created the chances needed to pull away late. There were only nine shots between the two teams, with Susquehanna outshooting the Fords 5-4.

However, the Fords put the game on ice with a goal from Arth at the 11:07 mark, completing his hat trick and getting Haverford the win on the road. Teddy Carlin went 6-of-13 at the face-off X, while Eric Dahlberg, Samuel Millie, and Hoehler each had four ground balls.

Men's Lacrosse will continue action with a home contest against Skidmore on Saturday, March 18. Game time is slated for 12 p.m at Swan Field.
