Men's Lacrosse Has Three-Game Win Streak Snapped at #11 Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (6-5, 2-1 CC)  saw its three match win-streak snapped by the Bullets of No. 11 Gettysburg (6-3, 3-0 CC) on Saturday at Shirk Stadium, falling by a 19-5 final to the Centennial foe. 

Reid Tietjen had two goals to pace the way for Haverford, while Teddy Carlin had a game-best seven ground balls with a 14-for-28 performance at the faceoff X. Ronan West caused a pair of turnovers while Haverford scooped 25 total ground balls.  Jacob Abraham had a valiant turn in the cage, with 21 saves while Andy Tieso made a save in a reserve role. 

Gettysburg was paced by Charlie Johnson, who added five goals and three ground balls. Jack Dunleavy also added a hat-trick for the hosts, while Quinton Mather added a pair of tallies. Chase Morgan was credited with the win in the cage with six saves in 45 minutes of action. 

Tietjen evened up the score at 1-1 in the early moments of the contest, taking a feed from Will Graves at 12:30 remaining in the first, but Gettysburg closed the first stanza on an 8-1 run. The lead eventually grew to 10-1 before an unassisted tally from James Surgenor put the Fords back within eight goals.

Jonathan Moon added a goal with 4:18 remaining before halftime, but the hosts found two more from Johnson and Dunleavy to pull ahead 13-3 heading into the break. Matt Richards lit the lamp in the early moments of the third, taking a feed from Philip Passalaqua, but Gettysburg closed the third with a 3-0 run for a 16-4 lead. 

Haverford added its fifth goal in the first few minutes of the fourth, with Richards finding Tietjen at 13:12. Gettysburg scored three unanswered in the closing moments to seal the Centennial Conference win. 

Tietjen continues to lead the conference in goals per game (3.45), and points per game (5.0). He also leads in total goals (38) and points (55) 

Haverford now returns to action on Saturday, April 6, hosting its Green Out Game for Mental health Awareness against the Ursinus Bears at 12 p.m. on Swan Field.
