HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (9-7, 2-6 CC) closed out the 2025 season with a 16-5 loss to Swarthmore (12-4, 5-3 CC), a team receiving votes in the latest USILA poll, on Saturday afternoon at a rainy Swan Field. The victory gives a point to the Garnet in the historical Hood Trophy Rivalry.
Before the game, the Fords honored their 13 seniors with a pregame ceremony on Senior Day (Jacob Abraham, Toby Berner, Jason Borsari, Drew Buck, D'Andre Chaney, Colby Freeman, Devin Lefkowitz, Sean McHugh, Jonathan Moon, Ryan Nygren, Ryan Ressemann, Matt Richards, Tyler Vendetti, Mathias Zawoiski, and Evan Wolpert).
Matt Richards and Reid Tietjen led the Fords offensively, as Richards scored twice and Tietjen recorded a goal and an assist. Richards' two goals keep him seventh in Haverford history with 125 career goals at the end of his collegiate tenure.
Ronan West paced the team with four ground balls, while Jacob Abraham closed out his Haverford career with 12 saves on 23 shots faced. At the faceoff X, Drew Buck finished 6-for-16 overall.
Among the senior milestones, Richards moved into fourth all-time in program history with 56 career starts, while Jason Borsari climbed to 13th overall with 52 starts.
Swarthmore controlled the first quarter, jumping out to a 4-0 lead behind goals from Danny Lowe and Owen Hoffman, along with two from Ryder Maston, who went on to pace the Garnet with game-high six goals.
The Garnet continued to surge in the second quarter with goals from Maston and Michael Hardiman, pushing the lead to 7-0 before Tietjen broke through for Haverford at the 8:48 mark. A man-up goal by Nolan Ohrman in the final minutes of the half sent Swarthmore into the break ahead 8-1.
Swarthmore added to their lead early in the third quarter, with Maston and Lowe combining for three more goals. Richards found the back of the net with 58 seconds left in the third, cutting the deficit to 11-2.
In the fourth, Hardiman scored another man-up goal before Haverford answered through Philip Passalaqua. Maston and Lowe then tallied two straight for Swarthmore, stretching the lead to 14-3. Richards netted his second goal of the day, assisted by Toby Berner, but the Garnet responded with goals from Aidan Rubio and Hardiman to make it 16-4. Tyler Vendetti capped the scoring for Haverford with his 31st career goal, with 3:01 to play in regulation.
The 2025 season has officially ended for the Scarlet and Black, but there were plenty of highs to build upon for the 2026 campaign. The Fords increased their overall win total from last season by two wins (nine wins, the most since the 2011 season) and reached their best start in school-history at 8-1 overall through the first nine contests.
