HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College's 31st-ranked men's squash team hoped Wednesday evening would prove to be a chance to slay a dragon, but No. 21 Drexel University fended off the Fords' attack as the visiting Dragons were able to come away with a 9-0 victory on the Gardner Integrated Athletic Center's squash courts.

Haverford (7-5) received its best battle of the night at No. 4 from Nathan Vestrich-Shade who opened his match against Ben Bevan with an 11-8 victory. Bevan rallied back with an 11-2 win but Vestrich-Shade forced play throughout much of the final two games before falling 11-6 and 11-8.

Jonathan Nguyen also put up quite a battle against his own Dragon at No. 7. Drexel's Marc Radermaker squeaked out a 14-12 opening-match win then had to withstand Nguyen's efforts over the final two games (11-7, 11-7) before capturing another point for Drexel (7-10).

Though Haverford failed to win a match, all approached Vestrich-Shade's and Nguyen's efforts including an 11-9, 11-8, 11-6 loss by Laurenson Ward at No. 6, and Charlie Michele's 11-7, 11-3, 11-8 defeat at No. 5.

The final regular season date for the Fords comes Saturday when the University of Virginia comes to the GIAC along with Colgate University's club team. Haverford squares off against UVa at 11 a.m. followed by a 3 p.m. match against Colgate.
