2019-20 Season Review

Signature Wins: Haverford (11-8) began to hit its stride after the winter holiday break with a great performance at the Pioneer Valley Invitational at Amherst College. The Fords registered a pair of victories on the opening day of the annual tournament, taking down No. 34 Hobart and No. 38 Bard (Jan. 25). The victories helped springboard the program into a thrilling finish to the regular season, winning four of the next five overall matches, including home triumphs over No. 46 Georgetown and No. 45 Vassar (Feb. 1), before a Senior Day sweep of No. 41 Denison and No. 39 Bucknell (Feb. 8). Haverford got the best of No. 55 Johns Hopkins at the Dickinson Round Robin (Feb. 15), and then grabbed a win in the CSA Team Championships finale, avenging a regular season loss to No. 29 St. Lawrence (Mar. 1), heading into the offseason on a high note by eclipsing the Saints at Harvard's Murr Squash Center.

Season Notes: Haverford reached 10 or more wins for the fourth consecutive season and will take the No. 31 ranking into next year by virtue of a seventh place showing at the Conroy Cup … The Fords contested the Conroy Cup (D Division) at the CSA Team Championships  for the third consecutive season after a Chaffee Cup (E Division) trophy in 2016-17 … Haverford's January win over Hobart was the first over the Statesmen in program history … Senior co-captain Tate Miller graduates with 42 career victories, the fourth-most in program history … Junior co-captain Fitz Dougherty continued his impressive career as he finished his third full season tied for fifth in program history with 40 career wins … Dougherty's .769 career winning percentage (40-12) is currently the best in program history among players with at least 15 individual match victories … Junior co-captain Davis Chase also has 32 career wins, playing primarily at the top flight as he will also look to take aim at the career wins record book in 2020-21.

Looking ahead: Miller graduates after a remarkable career at Haverford, but the Fords return the remainder of the ladder as they look to be in strong shape to take yet another step forward in the College Squash Association. Dougherty and Chase will anchor a team that saw a wealth of underclassmen get valuable experience while challenging through adversity a season ago. Key contributors up and down the ladder will be back for more and locked in, with rising sophomores Quinton Crawford (12-7) and John Collins (10-9) each recording double digit wins in their standout rookie campaigns. Khalil WalkerNathan WangKeil Reedich, and Aaron Witkin all posted nine wins a season ago, while Alden Weinberg went 4-1 at the sixth flight after rejoining the squad at the start of the 2020 portion of the slate.
