Men's Squash Posts Dominating Sweeps over Colgate, Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The No. 28 ranked Haverford men's squash team registered a pair of convincing sweeps at the Vassar Round Robin on Saturday afternoon at Kenyon Hall, taking 9-0 victories over Colgate and the host No. 41 Brewers. Haverford is now 5-0 for the first time in program history.

The Fords made quick work of the Red Raiders in the neutral site match. Alex Liu won at No. 6 singles with an 11-4, 11-5, 11-4 decision and Tate Miller finished off Matt Rose in straight games at the third flight (11-3, 11-1, 11-4). Alden Weinberg took down Joe Aiello (11-0, 11-5, 11-5) in the third match to finish at the seventh flight. Fitz Dougherty surrendered just eight total points in his sweep of Tom Sneeringer at the second flight (11-3, 11-3, 11-2) and Ryan Dukarm clinched the match at the eighth flight with another convincing win, surrendering just seven total points (11-2, 11-4, 11-1).

Yash Singh defeated Michael Malof at the fifth flight (11-4, 11-3, 11-2) and Keil Reedich posted a win over Zander Setnikoff (11-0, 11-1, 11-4) at the fourth. Davis Chase turned away Ryan Wetsman at the top flight (11-2, 11-5, 11-7) and Aaron Witkin got the best of Matt Webb at No. 9, rallying for a four game victory after dropping the second game (11-2, 9-11, 11-6, 11-4).

Facing a challenge from the host Brewers, the Fords once again dominated in a 9-0 sweep. Miller's match was the first to finish at the third flight, as the junior turned away Henry Mitchell (11-2, 11-5, 11-4) ahead of Liu's triumph at the sixth position over Travers Parsons-Grayson (11-0, 12-10, 11-4). 

Dougherty made quick work Alex Wisneski at the second flight, surrendering just five total points in his 11-3, 11-0, 11-2 sweep. The match was again clinched by Dukarm, as the senior got Haverford to five wins with a commanding performance over Eric Chen at the eighth flight, allowing his Brewer opponent to reach just seven total points (11-3, 11-2, 11-2). Weinberg defeated Reese Collins at the seventh flight (11-1, 11-5, 11-4) and Witkin defeated Liam Condon (11-4, 11-5, 11-6). Reedich allowed just four total points in his sweep of Isaac Stuart (11-0, 11-1, 11-2) at the fourth spot on the ladder and Chase secured the sweep with a great performance against Caden Gruber (11-2, 11-3, 11-5).

The trios of first years (Reedich, Weinberg, and Witkin) have begun their careers with unblemished marks thus far, and the Fords have posted an overall individual record of 43-2 through the first five matches. Singh pulled to 39 career wins and can eclipse Zach Cole for third in program history in total career individual wins with two more victories this season. The Fords are now 9-3 all-time against Colgate and 19-12 all-time versus Vassar. 

Haverford will return to action on Saturday, December 8 as the 2018 portion of the schedule wraps up at the GIAC Squash Courts. The Fords will welcome No. 33 Bard (11 a.m.) and No. 45 Chatham (3 p.m.) looking to finish the 2018 slate unbeaten.
