HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 30 Haverford College men's squash team (2-2) was tripped up by No. 20 St. Lawrence (2-0) on Friday night at the GIAC Squash Courts, falling by an 8-1 final tally. Haverford received its individual match win in the final contest of the night to reach completion. Noah Tunis outlasted Hassan Madkour in an instant classic that saw both competitors locked in a heavyweight battle with the spectators crowded around court four, fervently awaiting the conclusion.

Tunis turned away Madkour at the third flight after his Saints' opponent took a thrilling 15-13 win in the opener. Returning fire, Tunis prevailed 11-8 in a methodical third game victory before Madkour came back with an 11-9 triumph of his own in the third. Tunis tied things back up at 2-2 with a 12-10 win in the fourth, before finally outlasting Madkour 11-7 in the fifth and final game to send the Haverford faithful home with some excitement despite the overall result.

Elsewhere, the Fords were locked in competitive battles at nearly every slot on the ladder. John Collins dropped a five-game thriller to Ewan Farr (8-11, 11-3, 10-12, 11-3, 11-3) at No. 7 while Aaron Witkin and Minor Reedich also took their opponents to a fourth game at the ninth and fourth flights, respectively. Peter Lehv did the same at the second flight, locking horns with Vladimir Iglesias in a seesaw battle throughout the first three games before falling in the fourth.

The Fords now return to action on December 4 for the Vassar Round Robin. Haverford will battle with No. 29 Connecticut College (1 p.m.) and the host No. 34 Brewers (3 p.m.) in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. before the winter holidays. The Fords are next at home on January 29, taking on No. 33 Georgetown and No. 34 Vassar at the GIAC Squash Courts.
