HAVERFORD, Pa. – Kevin Yan of the Haverford College men's tennis team has been named to the 2020 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District team. This latest honor marks the second straight year in which Yan has been selected to the all-district team and makes him eligible for Academic All-America accolades.

This award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom. The at-large team takes into account schools that do not have their own dedicated team for a particular sport. First and second-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June.

Graduating from Haverford with a degree in economics, Yan is certainly no stranger to academic laurels. In addition to being a two-time selection for this award, Haverford's No. 1 singles player was recently recognized as an Ambler Scholar-Athlete for having one of the top cumulative GPAs among all senior student-athletes at Haverford. He was also named the 2017 recipient of the Archibald MacIntosh 1921 Award which recognizes the top scholar-athlete in a first-year class. Other notable academic honors include being named the Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's tennis in 2019, a member of the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team, a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, and a three-time selection to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.

In addition to his success in the classroom, Yan was a five-time combined All-Centennial Conference selection during his first three years in singles and doubles. That included being named the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year in 2017. He was a first-team All-CC pick in singles the following year to go along with a pair of second-team honors in both singles and doubles throughout his career. Yan was a steady contributor to the lineup right away as he played No. 3 singles during his rookie of the year campaign before moving up the lineup throughout his time at Haverford.

Heading into his senior season, Yan was certainly on track to add to his athletic honors as he played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for a Haverford team that had battled solely nationally-ranked competition in the spring. The team's success was highlighted by a win against No. 31 Stevens for the program's first nationally-ranked win since 2016. In that match, Yan teamed up with fellow senior David Kong at No. 1 doubles to help key a crucial sweep of all three doubles points. Yan capped his career with a 39-28 record in single and 34-23 mark in doubles. Even with a very limited senior schedule, Yan still ranks among the top 20 players in program history for career wins in both singles and doubles.
