Strong Day 2 nets 1st place in heptathlon for Ainsley

CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Jeffrey Ainsley posted the fastest time in the 55-meter hurdles, and used a pair of fifth-place finishes in Friday's other two events to accumulate enough points to maintain his first-day lead and capture the heptathlon title at the Widener (Univ.) Field Meet.

Ainsley entered Friday with a 255-point edge following Thursday's four events. His 1,715 points from Friday's three events pushed his two-day total to 4,299, holding off runner-up Lee Orzol (4,091 pts.) of DeSales University.

Friday opened with the pole vault and Ainsley posted a fifth-place height of 3.1 meters (10 feet, 2 inches) for 381 points.

The hurdles were next and Ainsley was able to add 775 points with an event-best time of 8.24 seconds. The final event, the 1,000-meter run, finished with Ainsley in fifth place in a time of 3 minutes, 11.14 seconds and the 559 points he scored allowed him to hold off Orzol who posted only a fourth-place time.
