Schilit equals best mark in mile at final qualifier

NEW YORK – Senior Jordan Schilit of Haverford College's men's indoor track team ran to an 11th-place finish in the mile run Saturday evening at the Columbia Final Qualifying Meet at New York City's famous Armory Track. His time of 4 minutes, 7.58 seconds was within hundredths of a second of his season and career best.

Earlier this indoor season at the Boston University Terrier Classic, Schilit posted his career-best mark of 4:07.53. The time, on a banked track like the Armory's, converts to a flat track (NCAA standard) time of 4:10.60 which is fourth-fastest in Division III this winter.

Schilit also owns the nation's eighth-fastest D-III time in the 5,000-meter run with his clocking of 14:29.79 on his home track at The Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center during the Fords' annual Seamus McElligott Invitational.

The NCAA D-III 2013 indoor track & field championship in Naperville, Ill., on March 8-9 will be next on Schilit's, and several teammates', schedule.
