HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's indoor track and field team posted strong times throughout the evening at the Holiday Meet inside the Alumni Field House on Thursday, taking a head-to-head victory over Widener in the 400m while seeing a slew of personal records fall in a variety of disciplines in the first meet of the 2016-17 season.
Liam Lynch won the 400m race with a time of 51.76, besting Malik Wilson of Widener, who crossed in 53.61. Scott Pollara finished third overall in 54.11 for the Fords.
In other head-to-head action between the two squads, Alex Frost tallied a fourth place finish in the 60m with a time of 7.41, just a tenth of a second off of his personal best set at last season's Keogh Invitational and just a tenth of a second shy of a top 10 finish in program history.
In the men's one mile run, Greg Morgan finished in second overall just behind unattached runner Mike Garrity. Morgan crossed in 4:25.96, a new personal best in the distance. Peter Kurtz (4:27.05), Julian Schneider (4:27.07) and Lincoln Satterhwaite (4:32.71) rounded out the top five for Haverford, with Schneider and Satterhwaite posting personal records.
Cross Country All-American Henry Woods paced the way in the Men's 5000m, crossing in a time of 15:15.30 while four-time NCAA national championship participant Jimmy Gorman began his senior track campaign crossing in second in 15:20, setting a new personal best. Graham Peet (15:21.55), Ryan Herlihy (15:23.40, personal record) and Charlie Hale (15:39.22) rounded out the top five finishers for the Fords.
Haverford's 4x200m relay team finished second to Widener in a time of 1:35.45 while Zach Oji finished the 60m hurdles in 9.76.
Greg Van Aken finished tied in the pole vault with Christopher Madden of Widener, as both cleared 3.65 meters. Freshman Cameron Albrecht competed in the high jump, clearing 1.6 meters while Josiah Legaspi (11.81m) and George Avecillas (9.95m) competed in the shot put, with Avecillas setting a new personal best. Avecillas made his debut in the long jump, clearing 5.28 meters.
Head Coach Tom Donnelly's team will next break for the holidays before reconvening at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Saturday, January 14. The action is slated to get underway at 10:00 a.m in Lancaster, Pa.
