HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford junior sprinter Liam Lynch has been named the Centennial Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced in a release on Monday afternoon.
Lynch, the reigning Centennial Conference champion in the indoor 400 meter dash, takes home the honor after capturing the first event title of the 2017-18 season for Haverford, the 800 meter crown at the Haverford Holiday Invitational. Lynch crossed the finish line in 1:57.27, more than three seconds ahead of the second place finisher, teammate Chris Goings (2:00.29). Hiroshi Kawakatsu (2:02.63), Sam Ditkovsky (2:08.42) and William Hillegas (2:15.07) followed to round out the top five in a Haverford dominated field.
The event title was the first 800 meter crown for the product of Albany, N.Y. Lynch has won four total indoor 400 meter event titles and a 60 meter title in his collegiate career to date.
Lynch and The Fords return to action after the holiday break, with the schedule resuming on January 13. Most of the squad heads to the Franklin & Marshall Coach I Invitational in Lancaster, Pa. while select competitors will take to the track at the Albany Great Dane Classic in Staten Island, N.Y.
