Men's Track & Field Grabs Two Event Titles at Collegeville Classic

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's track & field team continued its indoor season with a weekend trip to the Ursinus-hosted Collegeville Classic on Saturday afternoon. First-year Ryan Kredell delivered an event title in the 3,000 meters, while Haverford also captured the distance medley relay title to highlight a jam-packed day of action in the fieldhouse. 

Haverford earned 23 points from first years in the 3,000-meter race, highlighted by Kredell's winning time of 8:48.62. Kredell picked up where he finished in the cross country season with an impressive indoor debut to his credit. Charlie Ferguson crossed in third with a time of 8:57.66, while Nathan Leighninger was fifth in 9:07.70. Aaron Bratt also scored for Haverford, crossing in sixth with a time of 9:11.01. Sophomore Ryan O'Donnell was just outside the scoring places, taking an 11th place finish in 9:35.85. 

Haverford's distance medley relay squad of senior James Barker, junior Gene Perry, sophomore Jeffrey Allen, and junior Simon Perales impressed with a time of 10:53.31. With results still rolling in from weekend action, that mark places Haverford within the top 15 recorded DMR times thus far in Division III this season. 

The 5,000 meters also saw a pair of scoring performances for Haverford, with senior Steve Gan clocking a fifth place showing in 17:15.17. Junior Jack Fanikos notched points for the Fords with a seventh place finish in 17:40.34. In the mile, first year Nick Scardigno scored a point with a 4:42.36 performance. Sophomore Amos Karlsen finished 14th (4:48.80), while sophomore Jacob Gaba (4:52.24) and senior William Hillegas (4:52.95) , finished 18th and 21st, respectively. The 800 meters saw Sam Ditkovsky pace Haverford with a sixth place performance. The senior finished in 2:04.41. First years Michael Franco (2:17.52) and Ryan Quenemoen (2:18.50) also registered top 50 finishes in the event. 

Perry had a solid performance in the 400 meters, eclipsing his time from the NYC Gotham Cup with a 53.87, good for 14th overall. First year Ashton Smith ran the 400 in 57.27 for a 33rd place showing.  In the 60-meter dash, Alex Reichard finished 17th in 7.38, while fellow first years Dylan Kupetsky (8.6) and Cyrus Slavin (8.81) rounded out the Haverford sprint contingent in 60th and 61st place, respectively. 

Junior Andrew Lummus highlighted the field events, with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump, recording a mark of 11.82 meters (38'-9.5"). Reichard finished 16th overall in the long jump with a mark of 6.14 meters (20'-1.75"), while Lummus was 35th with a mark of 5.35 meters (17'-6.75"). Cameron Albrecht was 44th, clearing 3.75 meters (12"-3.75"). 

Haverford's throwers competed in the shot put, with Rasaaq Shittu impressing with a mark of 10.41 meters (34'-2") for 29th place, while Slavin was 33rd with a throw for 9.19 meters (30'-2"). 

With the winter schedule beginning to hit its stride, Haverford will have a busy week coming up. The Fords host their first meet of the spring semester with the Haverford Quad Meet slated for the Alumni Field House on Thursday. Action in the midweek meet will begin at 4:30 p.m. Haverford will then send a contingent to the Armory in New York City for the NYU Invitational on Friday, with action slated to begin at 1 p.m.
