Men's Track & Field Sweeps Weekly CC Awards as Gadra, Katz Honored

Full Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's track & field team swept the weekly indoor awards on Tuesday morning, as junior Matt Katz was named Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, and sophomore Ethan Gadra picked up Centennial Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors after setting a new program record in the pole vault.

Katz continued a breakout junior campaign with yet another standout showing at the Alumni Field House. Competing in the Keogh Invitational mile, Katz finished as the top attached finisher in a career-best 4:14.29. The time is the best in the Centennial Conference so far this season and also ranks as the 10th-fastest in all of Division III as the Huntington, N.Y. product appears to be in strong shape for his first appearance at nationals.

Gadra vaulted into the record books on Saturday afternoon, claiming the pole vault event title at the Keogh Invitational. Gadra cleared a mark of 4.45 meters (14'-7.25"), eclipsing his career-best of 4.25 meters and besting both the indoor and outdoor program-bests set by Jeff Barton '04 in 2003 and 2002, respectively. Gadra shattered Barton's indoor mark of 14 feet, six inches, as well as his outdoor mark of that same height. The mark is also the best in the Centennial Conference so far this season by almost eight inches. The West Chester, Pa. product was an honorable mention All-Conference finisher last season during his rookie campaign.

Haverford is now in its final preparations for the Centennial Conference Championships, which are slated for Saturday, February 29 and Sunday, March 1 at Franklin & Marshall College. Events are expected to get underway at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
