MEDFORD, Mass.. - Haverford junior Matt Katz and sophomore Jamie Moreland competed at the Tufts Final Qualifier on Saturday, taking to the track in the 800 meter run at the Gantcher Center. Moreland posted a time of 1:57.67, good for a 15th place overall finish, while Katz finished in 25th, crossing in a personal-best 2:00.65.
The pair both look to be in solid shape to qualify in the mile, as they came into the final qualifier meet with the 13th (Katz, 4:14.29) and 14th (Moreland, 4:14.41) fastest qualifying marks in Division III, respectively, in that event. Katz and Moreland have been standouts all season long for the Fords, combining for four Centennial Conference Track Athlete of the Week awards already this season. Moreland picked up a pair of gold medals (mile, DMR) and a bronze (800m) at the conference meet in Lancaster last weekend. Katz also brought home gold as part of that DMR contingent.
For each men's individual event contested, the top 15 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition at the national meet. Although results from across the nation's final qualifying meets are still rolling in, some of those present on qualifying lists may opt to compete in other individual events, or as part of a distance medley relay. Official qualifiers to the national meet will be announced in a press release on Sunday, March 8 as the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem, N.C.
