Moreland's 800m Gold Highlights Day Two at CC Championships, Men's T&F Finishes Fifth

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Haverford College men's track & field team wrapped up the Centennial Conference championships on Sunday at Franklin & Marshall with the showing highlighted by a gold medal from Jamie Moreland in the 800 meters. The Fords finished fifth overall in the two-day event, recording 58 points.

Moreland finished the 800-meter run in 1:53.81, taking his second gold of the weekend after previously taking part in the DMR that captured the event title on Saturday. Moreland earned his fifth Centennial Conference indoor gold medal overall, adding Sunday's performance to gold in the mile during the 2020 and 2022 miles, as well as the 2020 and 2023 DMRs. Matthew Denton finished ninth (1:58.82), just outside the scoring while Reed Solomon (2:01.72), Flyn Meadows (2:03.6), and Sam Diaz (2:05.75) also competed in the event for the Fords.

Reza Eshghi paced a trio of Haverford scorers in the mile, as he clocked a time of 4:20.82 to finish fourth overall. Nico Tripeny was just behind the sophomore as the senior logged a 4:22.43 for fifth place. First year Micah Lachman continued a strong rookie campaign with another scoring effort, finishing eighth in 4:26.80. William Harris (4:33.26), Michael Franco (4:33.78), Nicholas Scardigno (4:37.84), Seamus Flannery (4:41.38), and Joseph De Rosa (4:43.61) all also competed in the mile for the Fords.

After earning a bronze in the 3,000 meters, Peter La Rochelle continued a strong weekend with a fifth-place showing in the 5,000, as he clocked a 8:39.12 to score four points for the Fords. Aaron Bratt also scored for Haverford, finishing eighth (8:44.15). Jacob Maiwald (8:52.64), Miles Colescott (8:57.87), and Sammy Schindel (9:34.11) all also competed in the distance for Haverford.

In the 400 meters, Ravi Eaton just missed scoring with a 10th place finish in 51.89, while Jonathan Hill was the 12th place finisher in the 200 meters, clocking a 23.51. The men's 4x400 meter relay squad of Hill, Denton, Eaton, and Vir Goyal wrapped up the day of action with a seventh-place finish, scoring two points for Haverford in 3:33.96.

With the NCAA indoor championships slated for two weekends from now, Moreland figures to be in strong contention for the mile as he ranked fifth in that event nationally at the end of conference championship weekend. Ryan Kredell is ranked seventh in the 5,000 meters and 16th in the 3,000 meters, while the men's DMR is currently 11th in the national performance list with last chance meets still dotting the landscape next weekend. The top 20 declared athletes in individual events and the top 12 relays are selected for the championships.
