Moreland Named CC Track Athlete of the Year To Highlight Men's Track & Field All-Conference Teams

Full Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. -  Haverford College senior Jamie Moreland has been named the Centennial Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced in its postseason awards release on Thursday afternoon. Haverford's co-captain senior thrower Rasaaq Shittu was additionally named to the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team.

Moreland, a Los Angeles native, was selected as the Track Athlete of the Year following another stellar senior indoor campaign for the Fords' mid-distance and distance standout. Moreland posted two of the fastest times in Centennial history in the 800 and mile. Moreland ran a 4:03.66 mile on Jan. 27 at Boston University, the third-fastest mile time in CC history that also ranks fifth on the national list.

His 800 time of 1:52.93 at the TCNJ Invite ranks fourth in conference history. He won the 800 at the CC championship with a time of 1:53.81. Moreland also anchored the championship-record-breaking distance medley relay for the Fords at the CC meet, posting a time of 10:00.77 that currently ranks 12th in Division III.

For this indoor season, the "Performer of the Meet" and "Performer of the Year" awards have been separated as Moreland won the award for his overall performance throughout the indoor track & field campaign, not just results from championship weekend.

In 2019-20, Moreland won the award under its old format after a stellar showing at F&M, winning the gold in the mile and DMR while also capturing honorable mention in the 800 meters. That season, Moreland was the 10th in program history on the track side to earn the honor.

Greg Morgan was named Performer of the Year in 2019 on his way to the national championship in the 3,000 meters. Haverford previously captured the award in four straight seasons from 2013-16 as Chris Stadler '14 and Charlie Marquardt '16 each held a two-year stint as recipients of the conference's top indoor honor.

Moreland and the rest of Haverford's gold medal Distance Medley Relay will be in action on Saturday at the Tufts Final Qualifier in Medford, Mass. Action is slated to begin at 1 p.m. as the Fords look to post a qualifying time to the NCAA Championships. Haverford is hoping to qualify a DMR for the first time since 2014 when the relay squad finished second overall at nationals.

Moreland (800m and mile) and Ryan Kredell (3,000 meters and 5,000 meters) figure to be in good shape to represent the Fords at the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. as individuals, with final accepted entries announced on Sunday, March 5 at 7 p.m. via NCAA.com press release.
