NCAA Preview: Moreland and Kredell Set to Cap Historic Seasons at Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A pair of talented Haverford senior men's track & field standouts will take to the track tomorrow at the Birmingham CrossPlex as the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships open on Friday afternoon in Central Alabama. 

Senior Jamie Moreland will compete in the mile prelims at approximately 2:35 p.m. (CST) on Friday afternoon as he enters as the fifth-seeded miler in the event. Moreland's time is the 11th-fastest mile in Division III history, as the absolutely stacked field also includes NCAA record holder Ryan Wilson (MIT), Bennett-Boothe Genthe (Pomona-Pitzer) who holds the seventh-fastest time in Division III history, and Travis Martin (Trinity) who holds the 10th-best mark all-time. 

In what is sure to be one of the highlights of a jam-packed weekend, The top 20 declared entrants will enter the mile preliminaries on Friday and be split into two heats. The top four finishers in each heat, plus the next two fastest times, will advance to the finals on Saturday. All-America status will be awarded to the top eight finishers in Saturday's final. Should Moreland advance out of the preliminary heats and into the mile final, that event will be slated for Saturday at 3 p.m. (CST). Live video and results for all of this weekend's action in Birmingham will be provided via the NCAA's website.

Senior Ryan Kredell also takes to the track for the Fords, competing in the finals only 5,000-meter run Friday at approximately 4:45 p.m. (CST) as he enters as the seventh seed in the event. Kredell will line-up in lane 18 and also holds the 11th-fastest 5,000-meter time in NCAA Division III history. 

The loaded race field also features the 5,000-meter record holder Alex Phillip (John Carroll), all-time number two Christian Patzka (UW-Whitewater), number three Ethan Gregg (UW-La Crosse), number six Sam Acquaviva (MIT), number eight Elias Lindgren (Williams) and number 10 Matthew Kearney (MIT), as a bevy of runners will be looking to break the coveted 14-minute mark in the Yellowhammer State on Friday afternoon. 

Day one action overall includes the men's heptathlon, women's pentathlon, several field events, semifinal races and finals of the 5000 meters and Distance Medley Relays. Day two opens with the completion of the men's heptathlon. Championships are up for grab as finals in the remaining running and field events take place throughout the afternoon and evening. The men's team champion will be crowned following the conclusion of the men's 4x400 relay at approximately 5:30 p.m. CT and the women's team champion will be crowned following the conclusion of the women's 4x400 relay at approximately 8:30 p.m. CT on Sunday.
