Men's Track & Field Marks Stellar Home Debut with McElligott Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's track & field team hosted its first indoor home meet of the 2024-25 season, competing at the Seamus McElligott Invitational inside Alumni Field House on Saturday afternoon. The Fords earned event wins in the mile, as Reza Eshghi established the second-fastest time thus far in 2024-25 among Division III entrants, along with a triple jump crown from junior Jory Lee.

The mile certainly proved to be one of the highlights of the day for the Fords, who had the first four finishers in the event and six of the top 10. Eshghi's mark on the flat track is currently in second position on the TFRRS Division III leaderboard at the end of Saturday's action. 

Peter LaRochelle established a new personal best in the mile for second place (4:18.90), while Micah Lachman was third in 4:24.23. Seamus Fraser logged a fourth-place finish in 4:26.46, and Reed Solomon was sixth (4:29.36). Rookie Reef Kirchner finished eighth overall (personal-best 4:32.7), while Torin Pelton-Flavin finished 13th (4:39.24). Nicky Elias-Gillette (4:49.45, 17th) and Seawon Park (4:57.4, 27th) rounded out the Haverford contingent, with both achieving personal bests.

The 3,000 meters saw Joseph De Rosa finish as the top Haverford entrant, as the junior placed eighth overall in 9:27.43. A personal-best 9:31.85 followed for Kieran McDonnell, as the senior finished ninth overall. Senior Tommaso Wheeler crossed 12th (personal-best 9:47.76), and sophomore Cullen Worth was 14th (9:57.39).

Nico Greene was the sole Haverford competitor in the 400 meters, finishing seventh overall (54.59) and establishing a new personal best. Gopal Patel finished fifth in the 800 meters (2:09.66), while Jason Mayo clocked a PR of 2:28.92 for 14th.

In field events, Jory Lee headlined the jumps with an event crown in the triple jump. The junior cleared 13.81 meters (45 feet, 3.75 inches), narrowly missing a personal best but establishing the 45th-best mark in the nation this season. In the long jump, Tringas was fifth overall with a PR, clearing 6.26 meters (20 feet, 6.5 inches). Lee cleared 5.97 meters (19 feet, 7 inches) for 12th, while Jackson Juzang was 15th with a leap of 5.75 meters (18 feet, 10.5 inches), and Ma was 16th with a jump of 5.74 meters (18 feet, 10 inches).

The high jump saw both Mayo and Juzang compete. Mayo cleared a personal-best 1.7 meters (5 feet, 7 inches) for fifth, while Juzang also registered a PR, clearing 1.65 meters (5 feet, 5 inches) for sixth.

In the pole vault, first-year Joey Kim was ninth overall, clearing 3.2 meters (10 feet, 6 inches).

The throwing contingent was led by Will Singer, who finished 21st with a toss of 10.8 meters (35 feet, 8.5 inches). Tiger Wang was 26th, clearing 9.95 meters (32 feet, 7.75 inches), while Rocky Luan was 27th with a throw of 9.91 meters (32 feet, 6.25 inches).

In the sprints, a large grouping of Haverford runners took to the track, headlined by Mayo in the 60 meters, as the junior clocked a personal-best 7.21 for fifth place. Zenas Boamah was just behind in 10th place with a personal-best 7.34. Samuel Lin finished 12th (7.35), while Niko Beros also logged a top-15 finish in 14th (personal-best 7.43). Thomas Fendig (personal-best 7.49, 17th), Jonah Hoffman-Weitsman (personal-best 7.83, 26th), Alex Geng (8.04, 31st), and Tiger Wang (8.36, 34th) rounded out the Haverford contingent.

Fendig paced Haverford in the 200 meters, logging a sixth-place finish (23.62). Vir Goyal was 10th overall in 23.97, while Mark Tringas joined the action in 16th (24.41). Nathan Ma was 29th (25.56), Derek Linden finished 32nd (25.82), and Geng crossed 35th (26.10). Hoffman-Weitsman rounded out the Haverford finishers in 26.11.

Haverford had two relay teams compete, with the 4x200-meter squad of Lin, Goyal, Fendig, and Greene finishing third overall (1:33.7), entering the Haverford history books as the eighth-fastest in program history, while the 4x400 team of Lachman, Solomon, Patel, and Kirchner was fourth (3:44.9).

Next up, the men's track & field team will head to the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island, N.Y., for the Fastrack National Invitational on Friday, February 7. The event is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
