NEW ORLEANS – The Haverford men's indoor track & field team earned five All-Metro Region honors for the 2024-25 season, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in a release on Wednesday afternoon.
All-Region honors are awarded to student-athletes who rank within the top five in their respective individual events, based on the final descending order list for their region. Runners who are part of relay teams that finish within the top three in the region are also named All-Region athletes. The regions for this award—East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South, and West—are the same as those used during the cross country season.
Reza Eshghi earned two All-Metro Region certificates for the mile and 3,000 meters for the second consecutive season. Heading into the National Championships, Eshghi holds the top mark in the Metro for both events: 4:08.09 in the mile (set at the CC Championships) and in the 3,000 meters. In February, Eshghi set a Haverford school record in the 3,000 meters at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, competing against a field of mainly Division I athletes. His time of 8:03.39 broke the previous record of 8:06.56, set by Charlie Marquardt in 2016.
Peter LaRochelle boasts the fastest 5,000-meter time in the Metro Region, along with the second-fastest 3,000-meter mark, behind only Eshghi. LaRochelle ran a personal-best 14:29.46 in the 5,000 meters at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston and clocked a personal-best 8:20.48 in the 3,000 meters at the Fastrack Invitational in New York in February.
In addition to the senior duo, first-year standout Reef Kirchner made an immediate impact, posting the fourth-fastest time in the Metro Region for the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.23 at the CC Championships earlier this month.
As the indoor season comes to a close for the men's team, Eshghi will represent Haverford in the 3,000 meters at the NCAA Division III Championships in Rochester, N.Y., on Saturday at 5:40 p.m. A full preview and additional information will be available later this week.
