Four from men's track selected for national meet

INDIANAPOLIS – The accepted entries list for the 2013 Division III  outdoor track & field championship meet in La Crosse, Wis., has been released by the NCAA and a foursome from Haverford College's men's team will be making the trip to the upper Midwest.

Seniors Peter Kissin and Jordan Schilit will be joined by juniors Avi Bregman and Christopher Stadler at the national meet hosted by the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse on May 23-25, 2013.

Schilit will race in the 1,500- and 5,000-meter runs, Kissin and Stadler will join him in the 5,000, Kissin will carry the Haverford flag in the 10,000-meter run, and Bregman will represent the Fords in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

The preliminary heats of the 1,500 are scheduled for Thursday, May 23 beginning at 4:45 p.m. The top 12 runners from the prelims will advance into Saturday afternoon's final heat.

The 10,000 is a timed final event, scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start, and the steeplechase prelims follow later in the evening, 8:30 p.m., with the top 14 finishers advancing into the championship final Saturday at 2:10 p.m.

Saturday's order of events also includes the timed final of the 5,000 at 5:55 p.m.

Schilit enters the 1,500 with a seed time of 3 minutes, 47.25 seconds, second-fastest of the 20 entrants. His seed time of 14:13.58 for the 5,000 ranks third, one second behind the top seed.

Kissin will toe the starting line of the 5,000 seeded 12th while Stadler -- the 2013 NCAA D-III indoor national champion in the event -- starts 14th.

Thursday's 10,000 starts with Kissin bringing in the 15th-fastest time of the 20 runners.

Bregman, making his first appearance at track nationals, brings in the nation's fourth-fastest time, 8:59.67, for the steeplechase prelims. The Haverford record in the event is just three seconds ahead of Bregman's posted time.

Schilit, Stadler and Kissin have previously combined for seven All-America certificates. All three earned all-American nods in cross country -- Schilit in 2011, and Kissin and Stadler in 2012 -- with Stadler adding his second certificate of the year by winning the 5,000 in February.

Schilit picked up his initial track all-American recognition in the 5,000 at the 2012 indoor championship then repeated the honor in the same event at the 2012 outdoor meet. He was part of a fourth-place distance medley relay quartet at the 2013 indoor meet.
