Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Centennial Conference released its annual All-Conference teams today and the Haverford College men's outdoor track and field team had six members receive accolades.

Athletes who won events at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track Championships are listed as the All-Centennial Conference first team while second place finishers are the second team. Third place finishers were All-CC honorable mention.

Seniors Gibby Graves, David Roza and junior Charlie Marquardt won multiple events in making the All-Centennial Conference first team. Graves became the first person in conference history to win the high jump, triple jump and long jump in the same championship meet. He set a new conference meet record in the high jump and set a career best in the triple jump.

Marquardt is just the fifth person and third Ford in conference meet history to win both the 800m and 1,500m races. Karl Paranya '97 (1995-97) and Tim Schoch '12 (2010-11) were the other Haverford runners to win both events. Roza was one of seven runners, six of which were Fords, to win the 5,000m and 3,000m steeplechase in one year. Nate Suter '95 (1994), Ian Fraser '98 (1998), J.B Haglund '02 (2002), Grant Scott '06 (2005-06) and Ian Ramsey-North '08 (2008) also accomplished the feat.

In the 10,000m event, senior Joel Christian finished in second place after placing eighth in the previous year's race. Senior John Curry also nabbed a third place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase, giving him his first all-conference award. Senior Chaz Schneider was named to Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team.

Roza and Curry were two of the Fords that were named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.

The conference coaches selected Marquardt as the Outstanding Track Performer. The junior also won the same accolade in the indoor season and was the conference Runner of the Year during the cross country season. The coaches also chose Graves as the Outstanding Field Performer for the second straight season. He is the first athlete in the conference to win the award in back-to-back years since Haverford's Joe Awantang '08 in 2007-08.

Franklin and Marshall's Logan Lewis was the conference's Outstanding Rookie of the Year while his teammate, Greg Olenginski, was the Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Johns Hopkins' Bobby Van Allen was the Coach of the Year.

The Fords will now travel to the NCAA Championships in Canton, N.Y., hosted by St. Lawrence from May 21-23. The Fords have finished in the top ten each of the past two seasons with a tie for sixth place in 2014 and eighth place tally in 2013.
