CHESTER, Pa. - The Haverford College men's track & field team kicked off the outdoor season at the Danny Curran Invitational on Friday night at Widener, with distance events providing some early memorable moments for the Fords. At the end of the first day of competition, Haverford is in first place with 28 points, 18 clear of second place Swarthmore heading into Saturday's action. 

Senior Graham Peet won the 10,000 meters with a time of 30:06.59, a new career-best and the seventh-fastest time in program history. Peet's time is also the fastest of the season so far in Division III as results are still rolling in from weekend meets across the country. Peet breezed past the field, as senior Ryan Herlihy crossed in third with a career-best time of 30:35.21, besting his previous personal best by more than 30 seconds. Junior David Watt was the seventh-place finisher in 31:55.04, scoring for the Fords while eclipsing his previous best by more than 50 seconds.

Senior Greg Morgan was the top attached finisher in the 5,000 meters, following up on his memorable indoor season by eclipsing a personal best in the distance by almost seven seconds. Morgan finished in 14:30.12. The time is currently the third-fastest in the season by a Division III runner. Junior Conor Madden finished in 20th, crossing in a time of 15:26.81. First-year Nico Tripeny finished 23rd in his outdoor debut, finishing in 15:31.16. First-year Amos Karlsen was 35th in 14:46.83, while first-year Jeffrey Allen finished 43rd in 15:49.61. Sophomore Nathan Akerhielm rounded out the Haverford finishers with a 76th place performance in 16:40.07, as he made his outdoor 5,000-meter debut.

Haverford is right back to Widener tomorrow, as a robust schedule of events at the Danny Curran Invitational is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
