Men's Outdoor Track & Field Wins Two Event Titles at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Haverford College men's track & field team captured a pair of event titles on Saturday at the Bill Butler Invitational, on the campus of West Chester University. Graham Peet took home the steeplechase crown and Greg Morgan won the 800 meters to highlight a packed day of competition on the first Saturday of April.

Reigning Centennial Conference Track Athlete of the Week Peet and fellow senior Ryan Herlihy finished first and second, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Peet crossed in 9:10.79, a new career best, to capture the event title in a discipline in which he was named All-America a season ago. Herlihy finished second in 9:27.96, as Peet opened up a lead of more than 17 seconds over his teammate to cruise to the title. First-year Peter Buckley finished fourth in 10:05, while sophomore Jack Hunter rounded out the top five finishers (10:08.31).

Senior Greg Morgan highlighted the 800 meter field, taking the event title in 1:55.49, a new career best. Senior Chris Goings finished sixth (1:59.53), while junior Hiroshi Kawakatsu was seventh in 1:59.68. Sophomore Matt Katz crossed in 10th overall (2:02.16) while first year Scott Kaiser (2:02.72) and sophomore Jacob Landsberg (2:03.81) also finished within the top 20 entrants. 

The 1,500-meter grouping was paced by junior Conor Madden, who finished second overall in a career-best 4:02.35. First-year Nico Tripeny finished seventh in 4:06.07, while first-year Max Brelig (4:11.34) and junior David Watt (4:14.12) also crossed within the top 15 finishers. In the sprints, senior Kofi Acheampong crossed in ninth in the 100-meter dash (11.64), while senior Oscar Huang finished 15th in a career-best time of 11.80. In the 200 meters, Acheampong was sixth in a career-best 23.06 while Huang was 19th in 23.87.

Senior Zach Oji ompeted in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing 12th in 1:04.78.

In field events, senior Chris Glazer, sophomore Silvan Sooksatan, and junior Cameron Albrecht all finished with identical 1.68-meter marks (5'-6") in the high jump. Senior Greg Van Aken represented the Fords in the pole vault, finishing eighth while clearing 3.80 meters (12'-5.5")

The long jump finals saw senior Rohan Shukla finish fifth overall with a mark of 5.88 meters (19'-3.5"), a new career best in the event. Sophomore Andrew Lummus was sixth, clearing a career-best distance of 5.86 meters (19'-2.75"). Glazer was eighth with a mark of 5.74 meters (18'-10"), while Sooksatan was 10th, posting a mark of 5.56 meters (18'-3"). Albrecht rounded out the Haverford finishers with an 11th place jump, clearing 5.47 meters (17'-11.5").

Shukla was Haverford's top finisher in the triple jump, recording a mark of 12.62 meters (41'-5"), a new career best. Lummus was sixth, clearing 12.25 meters (40'-2.25")  while Oji finished seventh in 11.89 meters (39"-0.25").

Haverford now returns to action on Saturday, April 13 at the Chester Quarry Classic, hosted by Widener University. Action begins at noon.
