Virtual Senior Days: Men's Track & Field Class of 2020

With the 2020 spring sports unable to hold Senior Days on campus, the Haverford College Athletic Department is recognizing these seniors in a virtual ceremony, with some special help from their teammates. Today, we celebrate the 2020 Haverford College women's tennis seniors.

2020 Haverford College Men's Track & Field Senior Class

  • Three Ambler Scholar Athletes (Steve Gan, Conor Madden, Sam McCalpin
  • Program won 30 gold medals at the Centennial Conference meets during this classes four seasons
  • The Fords placed 17 student-athletes on the Centennial Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll this season, the third-most in the conference. 
  • Two USTFCCCA All-Region selections in 2020 (Sam Ditkovsky, Hiro Kawakatsu)
  • The program continued its string of dominance in the distance medley relay event, earning its 19th gold medal in 27 attempts in 2020

Cameron Albrecht • History • Green City, Mo. 

  • Established himself as a multi-faceted performer for the Fords, competing in the Heptathalon in each of the last three CC indoor championships 
  • Has competed in 13 different individual events for Haverford in his career
  • Won the indoor pole vault event title at the 2020 Haverford Quad Meet (Jan. 30, 2020)

James Barker • History • Short Hills, N.J. 

  • Co-captain
  • Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team (2019-20)
  • Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll in each season of eligbility for that award (2017-18, 18-19, 19-20)
  • Part of Haverford's 4x800 meter relay team that took silver medals at the 2019 indoor championships, was named second-team All-CC by virtue of that finish

Sam Ditkovsky • Astrophysics  • Weston, Conn.

  • Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team Selection (2019-20)
  • First-team All-Centennial Conference (distance medley relay, 2020)
  • USTFCCCA All-Region selection (distance medley relay, 2020)
  • Nabbed career-best finish in 800 meters at the CC Indoor Championships, toeing the line in 1:58.93 
  • Centennial Conference Honor Roll selection in each season of eligbility (2017-18, 18-19, 19-20)

Steve Gan • Mathematics  • Hangzhou, China 

  • Ambler Scholar Athlete (2020)
  • All-Sportsmanship Team selection for Cross Country (2019)
  • Member of the Academic Honor Roll in each season of eligbility (2017-18, 18-19, 19-20)
  • Won the 3,000-meter race at the Haverford Quad Meet (Jan. 30, 2020)

Will Hillegas • Chemistry • Chester Springs, Pa.

  • Set a new personal-best time in the mile at the 2020 Keogh Invite (4:49.71) 
  • Set outdoor personal record during the 2019 campaign, chasing down an 800-meter at the Haverford Invitational (2:11.76)
  • Competed on Haverford's distance medley relay squad that finished 11th in a loaded field at the prestigious NYC Invitational (Jan. 31, 2020)

Hiro Kawakatsu • Physics • Tokyo, Japan 

  • Co-captain
  • Back-to-back first-team All-Centennial Conference selections for 2019 and 2020 DMR
  • Twice named USTFCCCA All-Region selection (2019 DMR, 2020 DMR)
  • Second Team All-Centennial Conference in both indoor and outdoor 4x800 meter relay in 2019 
  • USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete 

David King • Philosophy and Religion (double major) • Alexandria, Va.

  • Competed during his first season at Haverford before transitioning to team manager role due to injury
  • Assisted the coaching staff with various tasks and was a vocal support person for the team on racedays 

Conor Madden • English (Creative Writing concentration) • Haddonfield, N.J. 

  • Ambler Scholar Athlete (2020)
  • Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area for XC (2019) 
  • Member of the Academic Honor Roll in each season of eligbility (2017-18, 18-19, 19-20)
  • NCAA qualifier and USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region during the most recent cross country season (2019) 
  • Honorable Mention All-Centennial Conference by virtue of bronze medal finish in the 10,000 meters at the 2019 outdoor championships 

Sam McCalpin • Chemistry • Louisville, Ky. 

  • Ambler Scholar Athlete (2020)
  • Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area for XC (2018, 19)
  • Honorable mention All-Centennial Conference in the 5,000 meters after bronze finish in Lancaster to cap indoor campaign. 
  • Member of the Academic Honor Roll in each season of eligbility (2017-18, 18-19, 19-20)

David Watt • Growth & Structure of Cities • Cambridge, Mass.

  • Centennial Conference Honor Roll (2017-18)
  • Set personal record in 5,000 meters at this season's NYC Gotham Cup (15:26.23)
  • PR in outdoor 5,000m (15:20.43) and 10,000m (31:55.04) during the 2019 season 
  • NCAA qualifier for cross country (2018)
