PHILADELPHIA - In the final event of distance night at Franklin Field on Thursday, Haverford junior Peter LaRochelle took to the track in the 10,000-meters field as the the only competitor from a Division III program.

LaRochelle finished 16th overall, beating out a pair of Division I competitors from Youngstown State. He narrowly missed a spot in the Haverford outdoor program top 10 list with a career-best finish in 30:20.45. The time was also the third best in the Centennial Conference so far this season as teams finish tune-ups for next weekend's conference championships.

The Great Barrington, Mass. native, an All-American during the 2023 cross country season, had to wait until nearly 10:30 p.m. to toe the start line. However, when the race commenced, the pace was one of the fastest in Penn Relays history, with the winning time from Notre Dame's Joshua Methner (28:43.53) being the fastest in 21 years.

Featuring some of the best runners spanning high school through the professional ranks, the Penn Relays is the oldest and largest continually running track and field competition in the United States.

Action at the 128th Penn Relays now continues tomorrow for the Fords, with senior standout Ravi Eaton taking to the triple jump pit at 4 p.m. - Live results and a live video broadcast courtesy of FloTrack are available via the Haverford Track & Field schedule page.

Aside from LaRochelle and Eaton, the remaining members of the men's track and field squad will be taking the weekend off from competition as they set their sights on the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships which run from Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5 at Muhlenberg.
