CLERMONT, Fla. - The Haverford College softball team continued its spring break slate with a 2-1 victory over Wheaton (Ill.) College on Tuesday night at the National Training Center. The victory gave the Fords a split on the day as Haverford fell 8-0 to Wittenberg University in the nightcap.

The contest between the Fords (3-1) and Thunder (1-2) remained scoreless through three innings before junior Dayle Comerford got things started for Haverford with a two-out walk in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Brittany Stevenson entered the game as a pinch runner for Comerford and junior Lauren Touey earned another walk for the Fords' to give Stephanie Wolfson a chance to do some damage. Wolfson took advantage of the opportunity as she brought Stevenson home with a single to center.

A leadoff single by Sarah Brody in the fifth helped Haverford extend its lead to two runs. Brody advanced to second on an error and then reached third after a Julie Garlick walk. Stepping to the plate with the bases loaded, senior Jen DiCandilo lofted a sacrifice fly to shallow left which allowed Brody to score the eventual game-winning run.

Sophomore Emily Winesett (1-0) earned her first victory of the year with five innings of work in the circle. Winesett struck out two and limited Wheaton to just five hits before Sara Tauriello took over for the final two innings and converted the save opportunity.

The Fords' final game of the night saw Wittenberg pitcher Alyssa Durette (2-0) surrender just two hits. Haverford's best chance to score came in the third when Jill Schnall blasted a double to left field but the Tigers (4-0) managed to get out of the inning.

Freshman Kendall Chambers (1-1) took the loss in the pitching circle.

The Fords return to action on Wednesday night with games against Mount Ida College and Millikin University at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
