CARLISLE, Pa. - The Haverford College softball team swept past host Dickinson College in Centennial Conference action on Sunday afternoon. The Fords claimed a 3-1 victory in the opener before capping the undefeated day with a 10-5 win in Game 2.

The two teams traded zeroes on the scoreboard in Game 1 until Haverford (14-6, 3-3 CC) opened the scoring in the fifth inning.

Elizabeth Newman led off the fifth frame with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch by Chelsea Homa (5-8). The following inning Newman was once again a factor as the Fords added another run. Sophomore Kristin Tatum worked a leadoff walk and a two-out single from Newman brought her home.

After the Red Devils (6-18, 2-8) moved within one with a run in the bottom of the sixth, senior Jen DiCandilo restored the Fords' two-run advantage with her first home run of the season. Launching her 12th home run in a Haverford uniform, DiCandilo now sits tied with Cassandra Searls '10 for the most career home runs in program history.

Sophomore Sara Tauriello (4-1) limited Dickinson to just four hits and one run over six innings. Brittany Stevenson came on to pitch the seventh for the Fords and the senior right-hander allowed one hit on the way to earning her fourth career save.

DiCandilo finished 3-for-3 in the game and Newman also had a multi-hit game (2-for-4).

Haverford again got on the scoreboard first in Game 2. Tatum led off the second with a double and then later scored on a wild pitch.

Jill Schnall helped the Fords tack on another run in the third with an RBI-double that plated Newman before Haverford exploded for four runs on four hits in the fourth.

After DiCandilo reached on an error to start the fourth, Tatum blasted her ninth career home run. Junior Dayle Comerford followed with a single which ended the day for starting pitcher Cassie Blyler (0-7).

Stephanie Wolfson greeted relief pitcher Micki Crouch with a double and a single from the bat of Sarah Brody scored Comerford and Wolfson.

Dickinson pulled within two at 6-4 after five innings of play before the Fords put the game away with a four-run sixth. Schnall provided the big blow in the inning with a three-run home run. The junior second baseman, who ranks among the league leaders in batting average (.474), has now hit three home runs in her last four games.

Tatum, Schnall and Comerford each finished with two hits in Game 2 while sophomore Emily Winesett (5-2) registered the win in the pitching circle.

Next up for the Fords is a non-conference doubleheader against host Widener University (12-6) on Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m.
