HAVERFORD, Pa. – Honoring the seven members of its Class of 2015, the Haverford College softball team added another victory to its already winningest class in program history Saturday. With all seven seniors in the starting lineup – Sarah Brody, Dayle Comerford, Julie Garlick, Brianna Lowey, Jill Schnall, Lauren Touey, and Stephanie Wolfson – the Fords recorded their 97th victory over the past four years with a 7-1 defeat of Gettysburg to start the day. The Bullets rebounded with a 3-0 win in the second game.
The day started with an explosive bottom of the first from the Haverford offense. Jessica Koshinski, Touey and Comerford each singled to start Haverford's half inning. An error on Comerford's single back through the middle allowed her to get all the way over to third and the first two runs to come home. Seniors Wolfson and Brody also added RBI hits in the inning to make it 4-0 after the first.
The Fords added single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings. In the third inning, Koshinski homered off the left field foul pole for her first round tripper of the season. In the fourth inning, Lowey reached with a walk and came around to score on an RBI groundout from Tatum. The final Haverford run of the game came when Touey beat out an infield single and came around to score on another RBI from Tatum.
Sara Tauriello was in complete control in the circle during game one. She scattered six hits over her complete game effort, improving to 11-1 on the season. She struck out eight batters on the afternoon and walked just one.
As a class, the seniors combined for seven of the team's 10 hits in game one to lead their team to victory in their final time playing on the Class of '95 Field. The seniors also combined to score three of the seven runs in the opening game.
In game two, a pitcher's duel between Haverford's Emily Winesett and Gettysburg's Aileen Reilly left the game scoreless after five full innings. During that time, Winesett conceded just three hits to the Bullets' offense.
Gettysburg finally broke through in the sixth inning with a pair of two-out hits that brought home the first two runs of the game. Gettysburg added another run in the seventh for the 3-0 final.
Haverford finishes the regular season with an overall record of 24-8-1, including a 12-4 mark in the Centennial Conference. That record puts the Fords in second place in the regular season standings. These same two teams will now meet Friday in the opening round of the Centennial Conference Tournament. McDaniel will serve as the host of the 2015 Centennial Conference Championship where the Fords will look to repeat their title from the 2014 season.
