Chambers Lifts Softball to Split at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Haverford College softball team split its third straight Centennial Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Dickinson. The Fords (10-12, 3-3 CC) opened this weekend's doubleheader against the Red Devils (6-16, 3-3 CC) with a 4-1 victory before the hosts stormed back with an 8-1 win in the second game.

Kendall Chambers got the start in the first game. She went five full innings and allowed just one earned run during her victory. The Fords' junior also blasted a three-run home run to help out her own cause. She then gave way to Emily Winesett who finished the game's final two innings and recorded the save.

Dickinson's only run of the first game came when a leadoff walk came around to score on a two-out double in the bottom of the first inning. After that inning, Chambers allowed just one more hit. She also worked around a walk and error during the third inning. She put the Red Devils down in succession during the second and fourth innings.

The Fords took the lead in the fourth inning with a three-run frame. However, they would need just one hit to accomplish that feat. Kristin Tatum and Jessica Koshinski were both hit by pitch to start the inning. After the first out was recorded on a batter's interference call, Chambers blasted her third home run of the season to put her side up 3-1.

The Red Devils put their first two batters of the sixth inning on base and bunted them into scoring position. However, Winesett took care of both outs herself. The first came on a pop up that she tracked down. She escaped any damage with a strikeout to end the frame. Winesett allowed just a two-out single in the seventh before inducing a fly out to right that ended the game. Haverford's final run came on a home run from Kaitlyn Guild in the seventh inning.

Dickinson bounced back with a huge second inning during game two and salvaged a split. The Fords' only run came in the top of the first when Rachel Wolfson reached on an error and eventually came around to score on a two-out passed ball. The Red Devils did their damage with six hits during a six-run second inning.

The hosts added on their final two runs of the game in the fourth inning when two unearned runs came around to make the score 8-1. From there, the Red Devils' Killian Kueny took care of things as she allowed just three hits in the complete game victory.

Softball will continue its road stretch with three doubleheaders this week. The first of those will be the only Centennial Conference clash of the week as the Fords head to Muhlenberg on Tuesday for a scheduled 3 p.m. start time.
