RADNOR, Pa. – Freezing temperatures overnight caused the Haverford College softball doubleheader with Cabrini to be pushed back by two hours. However, that was seemingly nothing compared to the chilling effects that Haverford's pitching had on the Cabrini bats Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader sweep. The Fords (10-4) allowed the Cavaliers just 11 hits and three runs over 14 innings as Haverford came away with 3-2 and 3-1 victories.

Temma Levis got the start in game one, a 3-2 Haverford victory, and ran her record to 6-1 this season by scattering seven hits over her fifth complete game of the year in eight starts. The only two Cabrini runs in the opener came with two-out hits during the first and seventh frames. From the second through sixth innings, Levis allowed just three base runners in total.

Haverford tied the first game in the third when Emily Reinstadtler singled to start the inning and was bunted all the way to third by Johanna Batterton. Julia Blake brought that run home with a productive RBI groundout. An Emma Souter two-run home run in the sixth gave Haverford the lead as Rachel Wolfson started that inning by reaching on a leadoff hit by pitch. The Fords also had two more on base before Cabrini escaped further damage that inning. Levis capped the game in the seventh by stranding the potential game-tying run at first following a foul out down the right field line.

Batterton got the start in game two for the Fords and picked up her first win of the season as she did not allow a run over her five innings of work. Batterton conceded just two hits during that time and struck out one. Maya Casey picked up the save with two innings of relief work as she struck out two during her time in the circle.

The Fords grabbed the early lead in game two as Blake beat out an infield single and promptly stole second base. Another infield single off the bat of Wolfson put runners on the corners with one out. Haverford attempted a double steal and a Cabrini error trying to catch Blake wondering off of third backfired, allowing the game's first run to score.

Haverford added on two runs in the fifth as Nicole Swisher reached on a fielder's choice before an RBI double from Wolfson and RBI single from Marybeth Stone made the score 3-0. With Casey on in relief, it was another two-out hit that plated Cabrini's only run of game two during the sixth inning. With two on in the seventh, Casey left both of those runners stranded as she got a strikeout and induced a fly out to center for the first save of her collegiate career.

Softball will be back on the road this coming Tuesday as the Fords travel to Arcadia for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. Centennial Conference play begins next weekend with a home doubleheader against McDaniel on the Class of '95 Field.
