HAVERFORD, Pa. – Reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week Emma Souter broke the Haverford College softball tie with Washington College in a big way as she blasted a home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Fords (23-10-1, 10-3-1 CC) a crucial 5-4 victory in the resumed game from the beginning of the month.
Returning to action in the top of the sixth inning after the halted game, Haverford went to Temma Levis in the circle as she retired nine of the 10 batters she faced. Levis struck out five over her three innings of work and allowed just a two-out single in the top of the seventh to record her program-record 14th win this season.
With its latest victory, the Fords move to within a half game of first-place Dickinson with a tie still looming on the team's schedule at Gettysburg. Should that tie potentially change playoff seeding, the Fords will travel to Gettysburg this Sunday for a 2 p.m. resumption of that contest.
