MINNEOLA, Fla. – The Haverford College softball team suffered a pair of setbacks on day two of its trip to Florida as the Fords dropped a 2-0 game to Case Western Reserve before a 9-4 final against Husson.

Starting off the day with a pitcher's duel against Carnegie Mellon, Temma Levis battled pitch for pitch with Case Western Reserve's Ilissa Hamilton. CWR pushed across the eventual game-winning run in the top of the first after the only extra base hits that the Tartans would manage in the game. Following a one-out double, Dusstyn Williams stole third and came around to score an RBI single. Case Western Reserve's only other run came in the sixth inning when the Tartans were able to execute a double steal to perfection and grab a 2-0 advantage.

Haverford's best chance to score came in the fifth inning as the Fords loaded the bases with nobody out. Marybeth Stone walked to start the inning before Nikki Kingsland and Temma Levis both reached on defensive miscues while trying to advance the runners on sacrifice bunts. Nevertheless, CWR escaped the jam with as the Fords did not get a ball out of the infield during the next three at-bats. Hamilton allowed just one Haverford hit in the circle for Case Western Reserve during her complete game shutout, a double to Kingsland during the second inning. Levis took the tough luck decision after striking out five in the contest.

After being shut down in the opening game, Haverford's offense came right back in game two against Husson with two runs in the top of the first and another in the second. Right out of the gates, Ashley Sisto doubled to start the game before a single from Emma Souter put runners on the corners. Stone brought those runs home with the second extra-base hit of the inning. The Fords struck again in the second when Madison Hujber started the frame with a single before Briana Quinn roped an RBI double down the left field line.

However, that lead did not hold as Husson also rose to the occasion offensively with four runs in the bottom of the first. The big inning was ultimately the Fords undoing as the Eagles also scored two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth during the eventual 9-4 final. Souter drove in the Fords' final run of the day on another RBI double during the seventh that scored Carley Parsons after she singled with two down. Souter finished her day against Husson 2-for-3 at the plate.

Softball will continue its Florida trip on Tuesday against No. 25 Manhattanville (4 p.m.) and Lesley (6:15 p.m.). Both of those contests will be played at the Hancock Recreational Complex (Field 3).
