FORDS FLASHBACK: Softball Makes Memorable 2016 Championship Run

Over the course of the summer, Haverford Athletics will continue to dig into the archives to bring you a "Fords Flashback".

May 8, 2016

Recap | Box Score

The Haverford College softball team made Centennial Conference history during the 2016 season as they became the first school ever to lose the opening game of the CC Tournament before winning four straight to capture the conference crown. Rushing to beat darkness on the final day the tournament could be completed, the Fords forced a decisive Game 7 with a 2-1 walk-off victories in Game 6 against the host Shorewomen. Kaitlyn Guild '19 delivered the RBI single for the Fords. Centennial Conference Tournament MVP Sara Tauriello '16 allowed just one run over eight innings before Kendall Chambers pitched a scoreless ninth before the walk-off in the bottom half of that frame. Just one week later, it was Chambers who was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Regional Tournament as the Fords defeated the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country to advance out of the "Region of Death." Only a decisive third game victory to eventual national runner-up Messiah stopped the Fords' historic campaign in the NCAA Super Regional.
